What Financial Health Check does
Almost everyone asks "am I actually broke?" at some point, usually at the wrong moment and without real numbers. This check turns the fear into a sober stocktake. You enter your net income, fixed costs, variable expenses, debts, reserves and insurance, and the tool breaks your situation into five categories with a traffic-light system.
Five areas are assessed: the ratio of income to expenses, the housing cost burden, the debt load, the emergency fund and insurance coverage. Each category gets a colour from green through yellow to red and a score, from which a weighted overall score is derived. So you not only see that something is wrong, but exactly where.
To make the numbers meaningful, the check compares you to the German average. How high is your savings rate compared to the roughly eleven percent German households set aside on average? Does your emergency fund come close to the recommended six months of expenses, or are you below average? Does your rent cover more than the usual near-28 percent of your net income? This context takes the power away from gut feeling.
The heart of it is the prioritised action plan. Instead of vague advice you get concrete steps in the right order: first stop the bleeding if you spend more than you earn, then tackle high-interest debt, then build a starter emergency fund, then close the big insurance gaps. Each step has an estimated impact so you know what pays off first.
Eleven ready-made scenarios from career starter to family with two children to retiree or someone in debt let you try out the mechanics without filling in every field first. They also show that "broke" is rarely a state but a direction you can turn around. Disability insurance, for instance, is consistently highlighted because it is the most underrated protection in Germany.
The tone is deliberately honest but never condescending. Not "you should have saved" but a clear look at what is, and a way forward. For red categories the tool points to real help such as free debt counselling or housing benefit, instead of selling you an expensive product.
All calculations run in your browser. Your salary and debt figures are highly sensitive and therefore stay on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing stored, no account needed. You can copy the action plan with one click and keep it for yourself.

Frequently asked questions
How is the health score calculated?
The score weights five categories: income vs. expenses (25%), housing (20%), debt (20%), emergency fund (20%) and insurance (15%). Each category gets a score, from which the weighted overall value between 0 and 100 is derived.
How large should my emergency fund be?
A rule of thumb is three to six months of expenses in a separate, always-available account such as an instant-access savings account. The check works out how many months your current fund covers and shows the gap to the target.
What does a red category mean?
Red means action needed, not the end of the world. In each red category the tool explains the problem and gives concrete tips - for example free debt counselling for a high debt ratio or housing benefit for a high rent burden.
Is my financial data stored?
No. The entire check runs in your browser. Your income, expense and debt figures are not sent to a server and not stored. You can only copy the action plan itself to your clipboard.
Is this financial advice?
No. The check is an orientation tool with honest rules of thumb and a comparison to the average, but not individual financial or debt advice. For serious payment problems, recognised debt counselling is the right and free place to turn.
