PDF Editor

A PDF does not have to be printed, scribbled on by hand and scanned back in. With PDF Editor you place text, highlights, shapes, arrows, sticky notes and freehand drawings straight onto the page - in the browser, without the detour via paper.

What PDF Editor does

The classic way to add to a PDF is absurd: print it, fill in or mark it with a pen, scan it, send it back. Yet all of this could be done straight on screen. PDF Editor lays a toolbar over your document that lets you place annotations without firing up the printer.

The text function places written notes or additions anywhere. For emphasis there is highlight, underline and strikethrough - exactly what you would otherwise do with a highlighter and a ruler, only clean and removable. That way you flag important passages in contracts or correct a draft.

For sketches and pointers there are shapes: rectangles and circles to frame something, arrows to point at a spot, and freehand drawing for anything that is not a straight line. Sticky notes attach a comment to a position that can be opened without covering the text.

Everything you place stays separate from the original content and can be moved or deleted again before you save. So you experiment freely until the annotations are right, instead of nailing everything down at once when printing.

For normal documents the editing runs locally in your browser, your PDF is not uploaded. When saving you can choose between a purely client-side output and a server mode, for example for large files. That keeps you in control of when and whether a document leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change existing text in the PDF?

The tool places annotations over the document - text, highlights, shapes and drawings. It does not replace existing body text in the original, it adds to and comments on it. For filling real form fields use PDF Form Filler.

Do my annotations stay editable?

As long as you are in the tool, you can move or delete each annotation. After saving they are a fixed part of the page. It is best to finish everything before you download.

Can I sign a PDF?

With the freehand tool you draw your signature directly onto the page. That is a visible signature, not a cryptographic digital signature.

Is my file uploaded?

For normal documents the editing runs locally in your browser. When saving you can stay client-side or choose server mode for large files. You decide whether a file leaves your device.

Can I use several colours and tools?

Yes. You freely combine text, highlights, rectangles, circles, arrows, freehand drawings and sticky notes on the same page, as many as you need.
