PDF Form Filler

Agency forms as PDFs are often already interactive - you just have to find the fields and fill them. PDF Form Filler reads out all text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio buttons and lets you fill the form straight on screen instead of printing it.

What PDF Form Filler does

Many official PDFs are actually fillable forms - AcroForms in the jargon. But most viewers show the fields poorly, and in the end you print the thing out and fill it by hand anyway. PDF Form Filler flips that around: it finds every field and presents you a tidy input mask.

The tool recognises the four common field types. Text fields for names, addresses and free text, checkboxes for yes-no answers, dropdowns for preset options and radio buttons where exactly one of several choices applies. Each field is listed with its name so you go through them in order instead of hunting for invisible click zones in the PDF.

Beyond the plain field view there is a JSON view of the fields, handy for anyone who wants to prepare forms programmatically or check which field names a PDF even has. That way you understand a form's structure before you fill it.

If a PDF has no fillable fields, the tool tells you clearly - either it is a plain scan without a form layer, or the fields have already been locked, which is called flattening. Then you know you need the PDF Editor for annotations or the document scanner instead.

For normal forms everything runs locally in your browser with pdf-lib, your filled PDF is not uploaded. For very large files there is an optional server mode. Especially with forms containing personal data - applications, registrations, declarations - it is reassuring that your entries do not have to leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Which form fields are supported?

Text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio buttons. These are the common field types in fillable PDF forms, so-called AcroForms.

What if my PDF has no fields?

Then it is either a plain scan without a form layer, or the fields have already been locked, that is flattened. In that case you can label the PDF with the PDF Editor or process a photo with the document scanner.

Are my entries uploaded?

For normal forms the filling runs locally in your browser with pdf-lib. Only for very large files is there an optional server mode. By default your entries stay on your device.

Can I lock the filled form?

You download a completed PDF. If you want to be sure nobody changes the values anymore, the form can be locked on save so the entries become fixed.

Can I see the form structure?

Yes. The JSON view shows you all field names and the currently set values. That helps to understand a form or prepare entries programmatically.
