DIN 5008 Templates

The German business letter has rules, and they are called DIN 5008. Where does the address go, where the reference line, where the fold marks? The DIN 5008 templates take that off your hands: 8 ready-made templates from the business letter through reminder and cancellation to the cover letter, with a live preview of the DIN zones and PDF export. Standard-compliant, without having to know the standard by heart.

What DIN 5008 Templates does

DIN 5008 is the standard that defines how a German business letter is built: the exact position of the address field, the information block with date and reference marks, the margins, the fold marks for the window envelope. That sounds pedantic but is practical: a standard-compliant letter looks professional, fits cleanly into the envelope and is expected by authorities and companies. The DIN 5008 templates build exactly this structure for you, without measuring millimetres.

You choose from 8 templates covering the most common letter types: business letter in Form A and Form B (which differ in the height of the address field), personal letter, short notice, cover letter, payment reminder, invitation and cancellation. Each template is tailored to its purpose and already brings the right structure.

The special part is the live preview with the DIN zones shown. As you type your text, you see exactly where the address field, reference line, subject, body and closing sit according to the standard. The fold marks are shown too, so you know where the letter is creased when folding, to appear correctly in the window envelope.

Form A and Form B are no accident: they differ in how much space above the address field remains for the letterhead. Form A offers a smaller, Form B a larger header area. The templates explain the difference so you pick the right one for your letterhead.

Finished letters export as a PDF that looks exactly standard-compliant, or you copy the text for reuse. So you get, in minutes, a letter that makes the right impression on an authority, a landlord or a business partner. The templates complement the Briefkopf-Designer for the top area and the Schreibmaschine when you need longer documents - all runs in the browser, your content stays with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is DIN 5008?

DIN 5008 is the German standard for laying out business letters. It defines where the address field, date, reference line, subject and closing go, how the margins look and where the fold marks sit. The templates implement the DIN 5008:2020 version.

What is the difference between Form A and Form B?

Form A and Form B differ in the height of the area above the address field. Form A leaves less room for the letterhead, Form B more. Which you choose depends on how much space your letterhead needs at the top.

Does the letter fit a window envelope?

Yes. The address field sits at the standard-compliant position, and the displayed fold marks show you where to crease the letter so the address appears correctly in the window of a DL envelope.

Which letters have templates?

There are 8 templates: business letter Form A, business letter Form B, personal letter, short notice, cover letter, payment reminder, invitation and cancellation. Each is tailored to its purpose.

Can I download the finished letter?

Yes. You export the letter as a PDF that looks exactly standard-compliant, or copy the text to reuse elsewhere. Everything runs in the browser, your content is not sent to a server.
