What Employment Resignation Letter does
Resigning from your job is one of those moments where a small formal mistake gets expensive. A resignation by email or WhatsApp is void because the law requires written form with a handwritten signature under Section 623 BGB. Miscalculate the notice period and you may stay bound a month longer than intended. The employment resignation tool handles both: correct form and correct deadline.
The tool covers four kinds of termination. The regular resignation with a statutory or contractual notice period is the normal case. The extraordinary termination for good cause under Section 626 BGB applies to serious breaches by the employer. The probation resignation uses the shortened periods of the first six months. And the mutual termination agreement ends the employment by consent at a freely agreed date.
The tool computes the notice period based on Section 622 BGB. For employees a basic period of four weeks to the 15th or the end of the month usually applies. The tool also shows the table of employer periods, which increase with tenure, so you understand the system and see your period in context.
Beyond the resignation itself you can request the claims due to you right away. The qualified work reference under Section 109 GewO is one, as is the compensation for remaining vacation under Section 7(4) BUrlG and, where wanted, an irrevocable release from duties until the contract ends. That way everything is in one letter instead of you having to follow up later.
A dedicated tab explains the legal situation, another shows the deadlines, and the preview builds the finished letter in real time. At the end you export the resignation as a PDF, print it, sign by hand and have it delivered to the employer verifiably - ideally by registered mail or in person with a witness.
To be honest: for a planned resignation to the next possible date the tool is exactly right. For an extraordinary termination, an offered mutual agreement with severance, or where a dispute with the employer looms, you should also seek employment-law advice - a mutual termination agreement can, for example, trigger a blocking period on unemployment benefit. The tool creates the letter but does not replace legal advice.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
Can I resign by email?
No. Resigning from an employment relationship requires written form with a handwritten signature under Section 623 BGB. An email, fax or WhatsApp message is void. That is why the tool creates a letter to print and sign, which you deliver as an original.
What notice period do I have as an employee?
Under Section 622 BGB, employees generally have a basic period of four weeks to the 15th or the end of a calendar month. The employment contract or a collective agreement may deviate, often with longer periods. The tool computes your period and additionally shows the employer periods graduated by tenure.
Should I sign a mutual termination agreement?
A mutual termination agreement ends the employment by consent at a freely agreed date, often with severance. Caution: it can trigger a blocking period on unemployment benefit because you participate in the ending. Before you sign, have the terms and the social-law consequences reviewed.
How do I request my work reference?
Under Section 109 GewO you are entitled to a qualified work reference that assesses performance and conduct. On request the tool puts this into the resignation directly, so you assert the claim in writing instead of asking later. You can have the received reference decoded later with the work-reference decoder.
How is this different from the general cancellation letter?
The general cancellation letter covers everyday contracts like mobile, subscription or insurance. The employment resignation is tailored specifically to the employment relationship: Section 622 BGB, mandatory written form, work reference, remaining vacation and mutual agreement. For your job, use this tool.
