DPIA Quick Check

The data protection impact assessment, or DPIA, is mandatory under Art. 35 GDPR when a processing operation is likely to result in a high risk to the rights and freedoms of data subjects. Sounds simple, but it is not: when exactly is a risk high? Many companies avoid the question because it looks laborious - and overlook that a missed DPIA is itself a violation. The Quick Check breaks the question down into understandable individual aspects.

Instead of leaving you alone with the bare legal text, the tool asks you a manageable number of concrete questions. Do you process special categories of data such as health data? Is there systematic monitoring? Are data subjects evaluated or scored? Do you use new technologies? Each question is weighted, because not every risk factor carries the same weight.

From your answers the check calculates a score and assigns it to one of four risk levels - from low through medium and high to critical. As you move through the questionnaire, you see the running assessment shift along, so you get a feel for which answers tip the balance.

At the end there is more than a traffic light. The check names the critical factors that weigh especially heavily in your case and hands you concrete next steps - whether a full DPIA is indicated, whether a consultation with the supervisory authority is worth considering, or whether the risk is likely to stay low. It also provides the matching reference to the legal basis.

For context, the tool shows example scenarios with typical outcomes - such as video surveillance, applicant scoring or a simple newsletter. That way you see how factors play out in practice and can better judge your own case.
