The bill arrives, everyone reaches for their phone and clumsily works out the tip, and in the end the amount still does not quite fit. The tip calculator takes exactly that moment off your hands. Type the bill, pick a percentage, and the tip and total appear instantly. No calculate button, no waiting, no awkward fumbling in front of the server.

For the percentage there are four quick keys: 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent. In Germany 5 to 10 percent is common, and at restaurants people lean towards 10 percent. If you want an odd rate, just type it into the custom percentage field. The calculator accepts any value but gives a friendly warning if you accidentally go above 100 percent - at which point either the generosity is enormous or a finger slipped.

When several of you eat together, splitting the bill is usually the real sticking point. Set the number of people and the calculator divides the total, tip included, evenly. The amount per person is highlighted prominently so everyone knows what to put in right away. No more debating who owes what.

A nice bonus is the rounding suggestion. Instead of odd cent amounts, the calculator suggests the next round figure, so you do not have to wait for change and the server gets a tidy tip. The suggestion only appears when it differs from the calculated total, otherwise the display stays clean.

You can enter numbers however you like: 47,50 with a comma or 47.50 with a dot, both notations are understood. Everything is built for speed, with automatic focus on the amount field and a reset button for the next round. And if you mistype, instead of a dry error message you get a little quip that lightens the mood.
