Fuel Cost Calculator

Fuel is one of those costs people love to underestimate. A single fill-up stings, but the real bill is the sum of many trips: the daily commute, the weekend tour, months of driving to work. The fuel cost calculator makes those costs visible. Enter the distance in kilometres, your car consumption in litres per 100 kilometres and the price per litre, and it works out the total cost, the cost per kilometre and the exact amount of fuel in litres.

So you never have to look up the fuel price first, real prices come ready-made. For E10, Super E5 and Diesel the calculator uses the reports every German station must send to the German fuel market transparency office (MTS-K), via the Tankerkönig service. Without a location you see the Germany average from up to twelve cities, refreshed whenever someone opens the calculator. Tap "Prices near me" and enter your postcode to get the typical and the cheapest price of the open stations around you. Time and source are always shown, and a price older than three hours is never filled in silently. Super Plus, LPG and CNG have no official price data, so there you enter the pump price yourself. You can override any price at any time.

The round-trip switch is handier than it sounds. One click doubles the distance, so for the way there and back you only type the one-way distance once. The result then clearly states that it covers the whole tour. Perfect for anything where, as we know, you do want to get home again.

The cost per kilometre may be the single most useful everyday figure. With it you can compare two routes, judge whether a detour to a cheaper station is worth it, or split costs fairly in a car pool. And if the trip is for work, the fuel needed and the total cost give you the base numbers for a travel expense claim or the commuter allowance right away.

The calculator thinks along without lecturing. Enter a negative distance, an absurd consumption or a fantasy price and you get no silent error but a short, friendly nudge. As long as not all fields are filled it holds back and shows no half-baked interim results.

The calculation runs in your browser. It never leaves your device, there is no account, no signup and no storage of your trips. Only the price lookups go over the network: the Germany average and, if you want, your postcode or your location rounded to about one kilometre. None of it is stored. If no fresh prices come through, the calculator says so openly and you enter the price yourself.
