What Fuel Cost Calculator does
Fuel is one of those costs people love to underestimate. A single fill-up stings, but the real bill is the sum of many trips: the daily commute, the weekend tour, months of driving to work. The fuel cost calculator makes those costs visible. Enter the distance in kilometres, your car consumption in litres per 100 kilometres and the price per litre, and it works out the total cost, the cost per kilometre and the exact amount of fuel in litres.
So you never have to look up the fuel price first, the typical values come ready-made. A fuel-type selector lets you pick E10, Super E5, Diesel, Super Plus, LPG or CNG, and the matching price is filled in. For the common types the calculator pulls current Germany-wide average prices from a live data source. The price it uses is shown openly above the fields, including the reference date - because your local station can of course differ. That is exactly why you can override the price by hand at any time.
The round-trip switch is handier than it sounds. One click doubles the distance, so for the way there and back you only type the one-way distance once. The result then clearly states that it covers the whole tour. Perfect for anything where, as we know, you do want to get home again.
The cost per kilometre may be the single most useful everyday figure. With it you can compare two routes, judge whether a detour to a cheaper station is worth it, or split costs fairly in a car pool. And if the trip is for work, the fuel needed and the total cost give you the base numbers for a travel expense claim or the commuter allowance right away.
The calculator thinks along without lecturing. Enter a negative distance, an absurd consumption or a fantasy price and you get no silent error but a short, friendly nudge. As long as not all fields are filled it holds back and shows no half-baked interim results.
Everything runs in your browser. The calculation itself never leaves your device, there is no account, no signup and no storage of your trips. The only network request is a one-off fetch of the current average fuel prices, and even if that fails the tool simply carries on with built-in reference values.

Average consumption in litres per 100 kilometres is usually shown on the trip computer, in the vehicle papers or the manufacturer data. Your own real-world average from fuel receipts is more realistic.
Can I use this for the commuter allowance?
The calculator gives you fuel cost, fuel needed and cost per kilometre as a solid basis. The commuter allowance itself follows fixed amounts per distance kilometre and is independent of the actual fuel price - for the exact tax figure use a dedicated commuter allowance calculator.
Does the calculator work for electric cars?
The tool is built for combustion engines and works in litres per 100 kilometres. For electricity in kilowatt hours the model does not fit cleanly - a dedicated electricity cost calculator would be the better choice.
Are my trips stored?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, with no account and no storage. Only the current average prices are fetched from the network once.
