How Do You Calculate Percentages?
The basic percentage formula is: percentage value = base value x percentage rate / 100. Our percentage calculator solves all three variants: calculate the percentage value, find the percentage rate, or determine the base value — instantly and without registration.
Percentage Increase and Decrease
To calculate a percentage increase, multiply the base value by (1 + rate/100). For a decrease, multiply by (1 - rate/100). Example: 450 plus 20% equals 450 x 1.20 = 540. And 450 minus 20% equals 450 x 0.80 = 360.
VAT Calculation
One of the most common use cases: converting net to gross. Net amount x 1.19 = gross (at 19% German VAT). The reverse: gross / 1.19 = net. For the reduced 7% rate, use x 1.07 or / 1.07 respectively.
