Imprint Generator

Almost every German website needs an Impressum - and having none, or a wrong one, invites a legal warning. The imprint generator builds the correct provider identification under Section 5 DDG in minutes, whether you are a freelancer, GmbH, UG, club or small business. Free, no signup, right in your browser.

What Imprint Generator does

The Impressum is the legally required provider identification: who is behind this website, and how do you reach that person or company? Since the Digital Services Act (DDG) replaced the old TMG, the obligation lives in Section 5 DDG. A missing or incomplete Impressum is a classic reason for a legal warning - and one you can avoid entirely with a few minutes of effort.

The catch is that the mandatory details differ by legal form. A freelancer needs different entries than a GmbH, a registered club different ones than a small trade. The generator knows these differences: you pick your legal form and it shows exactly the fields you must fill in - no more, no less.

For a GmbH or UG that means managing directors, commercial register and registration number; for freelancers the responsible chamber and the statutory professional title for regulated professions like doctors, lawyers or tax advisers. VAT identification number where you have one. The generator asks for what actually matters in your case.

If you run a site with editorial or journalistic content - a blog, a magazine - the obligation under the Interstate Media Treaty (MStV) often applies too: a responsible person under Section 18 MStV with an address. The generator covers that as well, so you do not have to guess whether your project falls under it.

Everything runs entirely client-side in your browser. Your data - name, address, contact - never leaves your device and is stored nowhere. At the end you copy the finished Impressum as text or HTML and put it on your site. No account, no newsletter, no hidden costs.

Honestly: for the standard case a clean Impressum is no rocket science, and that is exactly what this generator is for. For unusual setups - multiple operators, complex corporate structures, foreign elements - a lawyer’s review is worth it. For the vast majority of websites, the correct provider identification you build here in minutes is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Does my website really need an Impressum?

As soon as your site is commercial or goes beyond the purely private and family sphere, you need an Impressum under Section 5 DDG. That applies to many blogs, club sites and social media profiles too. A purely private page with no commercial angle may be exempt - when in doubt, better to have one.

What is the difference between DDG and TMG?

The Digital Services Act (DDG) replaced the Telemedia Act (TMG) in 2024. The imprint obligation now sits in Section 5 DDG instead of Section 5 TMG. The mandatory details are largely unchanged in substance; only the reference moved. The generator works with the current DDG version.

Do I have to list my phone number?

You must enable quick electronic contact, classically by email. Case law does not strictly require a phone number as long as another effective contact route exists, such as a contact form with a prompt reply. An email address you should always provide.

What applies to small businesses under Section 19?

Small businesses charge no VAT and often have no VAT identification number. In that case you simply leave the field empty. Otherwise the normal mandatory details for your trade apply. The generator treats the field as optional accordingly.

Is my data stored?

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser. Name, address and contact details never leave your device and are stored nowhere. At the end you copy the finished text - everything stays with you.
