What Passport Photo Cropper does
Passport photos are one of those things where a small detail gets genuinely expensive. The booth costs money, the photographer costs more, and if the authority rejects the photo the whole game starts over. Yet you often already have a good photo on your phone - it just needs the right format and the right face position. That is exactly what this tool does.
At the core are the biometric presets. The German 35x45 format for ID card, passport and driving licence is there, as is the Schengen visa, the US 2x2 inch format for passport and visa, plus formats for the UK, China at 33x48 millimetres, India, Japan, Canada at 50x70 and Australia. For applications there is the classic 4.5x6 cm format and a compact 3.5x5 cm variant.
So the photo actually gets accepted, guidelines show the correct head position. The biometric formats have rules for how high the face must sit in the frame, and the notes on standards like ICAO help you meet them. You can zoom and move freely until chin, eyes and head height fit.
For printing there is the print sheet. Instead of expensively developing a single photo, you place several passport pictures on a 10x15 cm sheet and print them at home or at the drugstore. You can set the resolution to 300 or 600 DPI so the print stays sharp.
The photo is processed server-side with Sharp so the result is cleanly scaled and cropped - a single image, not a batch. In the end you download the finished passport photo or the print sheet. An honest note: whether an authority accepts the photo also depends on lighting, background and expression. The tool helps with format and position, the rest you bring yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Which formats does the cropper support?
Over a dozen biometric presets: the German 35x45 format for ID, passport and licence, the Schengen visa, US 2x2 inch, plus UK, China 33x48, India, Japan, Canada 50x70 and Australia. For applications there is 4.5x6 cm and a compact 3.5x5 cm format, plus a 10x15 cm print sheet.
Is my photo guaranteed to be accepted?
The tool helps with the right format and head position and shows notes on standards like ICAO. Whether an authority accepts the photo also depends on lighting, background, sharpness and expression, though. That image quality you have to bring yourself.
How do I print several passport photos cheaply?
Use the print sheet. It places several passport pictures on a 10x15 cm sheet you can print at home or develop at the drugstore - far cheaper than individual booth photos. For sharp printing you set 300 or 600 DPI.
What do the guidelines mean?
They show where chin, eyes and top of the head should sit in the frame. Biometric formats prescribe a certain face height, and the lines help you align the photo to exactly that.
Is my photo stored?
The image is processed server-side with Sharp for cropping and scaling and returned as a finished file. It serves the purpose of cropping and is not reused for other purposes.
