Color Palette Extractor

Pull the colors out of an image and turn them into a ready palette. The color palette extractor finds the dominant colors of a photo, gives them to you as HEX, RGB, HSL and OKLCH and exports the whole palette as CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, JSON or Adobe ASE - including color harmony analysis and WCAG contrast checking.

What Color Palette Extractor does

A photo, a screenshot, a moodboard - sometimes the perfect color world already sits in an image, you just have to pull it out. The color palette extractor analyses your image and extracts the dominant colors, so in seconds you have a coherent palette instead of chasing pixel by pixel with an eyedropper.

How fine the palette gets is up to you: five colors for the rough tone, up to twenty for fine gradation. Each color comes in several formats at once, because depending on the tool you need HEX for CSS, RGB for graphics programs, HSL to tweak brightness and saturation, or OKLCH for modern, perceptual work. One click copies the value you need right now.

So the palette is not just pretty but usable, there is the harmony analysis. The tool detects color relationships like complementary, analogous and triadic pairs and displays them. So you see at a glance which colors work together and which rather clash.

The most important practical part is the WCAG contrast check. For color combinations the tool computes the contrast ratio and shows whether it reaches levels AA and AAA - for normal and for large text. So you build accessible combinations right away, instead of later realising nobody can read the heading on the background.

Once the palette is done, you export it in the format that fits your workflow: CSS variables, a Tailwind config, SCSS variables, clean JSON or Adobe ASE for the Adobe programs. So the palette moves straight into your project without you retyping values.

The image is processed server-side so the color analysis runs reliably even on larger images. The result is a palette that designers, developers and anyone building something colourful can work with immediately.

Features

Extract dominant colors

Pulls the defining colors from any image - faster than any eyedropper and without guessing.

Five to twenty colors

Choose a palette size from five to twenty colors, depending on how finely you want to gradate.

HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH

Each color in four formats, copied with a click - from classic HEX to modern OKLCH.

Harmony analysis

Detects complementary, analogous and triadic relationships so the palette holds together.

WCAG contrast check

Shows the contrast ratio and whether a combination reaches AA and AAA for normal and large text.

Export in five formats

CSS variables, Tailwind config, SCSS, JSON or Adobe ASE - the palette moves straight into the project.

How it works

  1. 1

    Open an image

Upload a photo, a screenshot or a moodboard the palette should come from.

  2. 2

    Choose the number of colors

Decide whether to pull five, eight, ten, twelve, sixteen or twenty colors from the image.

  3. 3

    Review the colors

Look at the values in HEX, RGB, HSL and OKLCH, check harmonies and contrasts and copy single colors.

  4. 4

    Export the palette

Export as CSS, Tailwind, SCSS, JSON or Adobe ASE and take the palette into your project.

Who needs this

→Designers deriving a brand palette from a moodboard.
→Developers who need colors straight as CSS variables or a Tailwind config.
→Anyone looking for an accessible color combination with checked contrast.
→Illustrators pulling a palette as Adobe ASE into their programs.
→Anyone who wants to build a coherent color scheme from a favourite photo.

Frequently asked questions

How many colors can I extract?

You can choose between five, eight, ten, twelve, sixteen and twenty colors. Fewer colors capture the rough base tone, more colors show the finer gradations of the image.

What is OKLCH and why would I need it?

OKLCH is a modern color space closer to human perception than HEX or RGB. It is especially good for building even brightness and color gradations. Alongside OKLCH you also get each color as HEX, RGB and HSL.

How does the WCAG contrast check help me?

It computes the contrast ratio between colors and shows whether a combination reaches the accessibility levels AA and AAA - separately for normal and large text. So you make sure text is readable on your background before you use the colors.

Which formats can I export to?

To CSS variables, a Tailwind config, SCSS variables, JSON and Adobe ASE for programs like Photoshop or Illustrator. So the palette fits almost any design and development workflow without retyping values.

What does color harmony mean?

Color harmonies are relationships between colors that sit at certain distances on the color wheel. The tool detects complementary pairs opposite each other, analogous colors close together and triadic combinations, helping you pick coherent rather than clashing combinations.
