What Queue Snake does
Queue Snake is our own snake game, written and drawn by us. The hall is a grid of 18 by 18 cells, and somewhere lies a ticket. You lead the first person in the queue there and everyone else follows politely. Every ticket you collect brings one point and one more person into the line.
The longer the line, the tighter it gets. Run into the wall or into your own line and the counter closes, the round is over. The end of the line moves on in the same moment you step forward at the front - so you may walk right behind the last person, as long as no new ticket joins in that step.
The pace picks up slowly: every five tickets the line gets a little faster, up to a top speed that stays playable. The speed does not depend on your screen, on a 144 Hz monitor the game runs exactly as fast as on an old laptop.
You steer with the arrow keys or with W, A, S and D. Press two directions quickly in a row and neither is lost, the game remembers up to two turns ahead. On a phone you swipe in the direction you want or tap the big arrow buttons below the field.
Pause with Space, with P or with the pause button. If you leave the window or switch tabs, the game pauses by itself so you never lose a round while you quickly do something else.
Everything runs in your browser, the game sends nothing to us. When you are signed in, your browser remembers your best score on this device.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
When is a round over?
When the first person in the line runs into the wall or into the line itself. Walking right behind the last person is allowed, because that person moves on one step in the same moment.
Can I win the game?
Yes, in theory: when the line fills the whole hall and there is no room left for a ticket, you have won. Only very patient people get there.
How do I pause?
With Space, with P or with the pause button next to the arrows. The game also pauses by itself when you leave the window or switch tabs.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Swipe across the field in the direction the line should go, or tap the big arrow buttons below the field.
Is my best score saved?
When you are signed in, your browser stores the best score on this device. Without signing in it only lasts while the window is open. We never get to see it either way.
