What Solitaire does

Solitaire is the card game that needs no opponent. You against a shuffled deck, a bit of luck and a lot of planning. The goal is simple yet sneaky: all 52 cards end up in four foundation piles, one per suit, ascending from ace to king. The road there runs through seven tableau columns where you build order descending and in alternating colours.

The rules stick after two rounds. In the tableau you stack cards descending and in alternating colour - a red seven goes on a black eight, a black six on a red seven. Whole sequences can be moved at once. Only a king may go on an empty column. On the foundations it works the other way: same suit, ascending from the ace.

You draw new cards from the stock when nothing moves in the tableau. When a card lands face-up in the waste, you can bring it into play or straight onto a foundation. When the stock is empty you flip it over and start again - so there is always another chance to reach the one card you need right now.

Moves are comfortable drag-and-drop. You grab a card or a whole run, drag it to the target and let go. If the move does not fit, the card springs back with nothing broken. A score and a move counter run along so you can compare rounds and keep an eye on your efficiency.

Solitaire is the ideal pastime for a break: short enough for five minutes, deep enough to lose yourself in. Some deals are solvable, some are not - and that is exactly the appeal. One click reshuffles and the next round waits.

Everything runs in your browser, with no signup and no data transfer. The deck is shuffled locally, your moves stay on your device. It works offline, on a desktop with the mouse and on a phone by tapping.

Features

Classic Klondike

Seven tableau columns, four foundations, one stock pile - the Solitaire variant everyone knows from Windows.

Drag-and-drop

Grab a card or a whole run and drag it to its target. Invalid moves gently spring back.

Move sequences at once

Valid descending runs in alternating colour move all at once, not card by card.

Score and move count

A score and a move counter run along so you can measure efficiency and compare rounds.

Recyclable stock

When the stock is empty you flip it and start again - always another shot at the right card.

Reshuffle with one click

A new deal is one click away. Every round is different, some solvable, some a real puzzle.

Runs in the browser

No signup, no data, works offline. On desktop with the mouse, on a phone by tapping.

How it works

  1. 1

    Understand the layout

Seven tableau columns in the middle, four empty foundations on top, the stock on the left. Only each column top card is face-up.

  2. 2

    Order the tableau

Stack cards descending and in alternating colour. That frees hidden cards and makes space.

  3. 3

    Draw from the stock

When nothing moves in the tableau, draw a new card from the stock into the waste and bring it into play.

  4. 4

    Fill the foundations

Start with the aces and build each suit up to the king. When all four are full, you have won.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stack cards in the tableau?

In the tableau you stack cards descending and in alternating colour. A red seven goes on a black eight, a black six on a red seven. Only a king may go on an empty column.

How do I fill the foundations?

Each of the four foundations collects one suit, ascending from ace to king. So you start with the ace, then the two of the same suit and so on. When all four foundations are full, the game is won.

Can I move several cards at once?

Yes. A valid descending run in alternating colours can be moved as a whole. You grab the top card of the run and drag the entire chain to its new target.

What happens when the stock is empty?

When the stock is used up, you flip it over and start again. That gives you another chance to reach a card you skipped on the first pass.

Is every game solvable?

Not every one. In Klondike it depends on the shuffle - some deals are solvable, some are not. That very uncertainty is the appeal. If it does not work out, one click reshuffles.
