What File Tower does
File Tower is our own stacking game, written and drawn by us. A stack of files lies on the desk, and above it the next one slides from one side to the other. You tap at the right moment and the new stack lands on the tower.
If it does not sit exactly on top, everything that sticks out is cut off and falls into the shredder. The tower gets narrower, and every following stack is exactly as wide as what is left. Miss the tower completely and the file lands under the desk, the round is over.
Land it almost exactly and the stack snaps neatly into place and keeps its full width. From the third perfect drop in a row the stack even gets a little wider again, up to the width you started with. Stay calm and you can keep building for a long time.
The higher the tower, the faster the stacks slide, up to a pace that stays fair. New stacks come alternately from the left and from the right. The speed does not depend on your screen.
You drop with a tap on the field, with the big "Drop" button, with Space or the down arrow. Holding the key down counts only once, so a whole tower never falls by accident. P or the pause button pause, and if you leave the window the game pauses by itself.
With the system setting for reduced motion, the view jumps straight up instead of gliding and the cut-off pieces do not visibly fall. Everything runs in your browser, the game sends nothing to us.
Features
One button is enough
Tap, drop, done. It does not get easier, only harder: the tower grows and the stacks speed up.
Shredder for overhangs
Whatever is not on the tower gets cut off. Every mistake makes the next stacks narrower.
Perfect drops pay off
Almost exact snaps neatly into place. From three perfect drops in a row, the stack gets wider again.
Our own game
Written and drawn by us, with no third-party graphics. The files are empty, no worries.
For finger and keys
Big button, tap on the field, Space or down arrow. Holding counts only once.
Respects reduced motion
With reduced motion the view jumps instead of gliding and the shredder works out of sight.
How it works
- 1
Start stacking
Tap "Start stacking" or press Space. The first stack slides in from the left.
- 2
Drop at the right moment
Tap when the stack is right above the tower. Whatever sticks out gets shredded.
- 3
Build higher
Every floor scores one point. The stacks get faster the higher you go.
- 4
New tower
Missed? One tap on "New tower" and the desk is clear again.
Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
When is the round over?
When a stack misses the tower completely. As long as even a small part lands on it, the game goes on, just narrower.
What counts as a perfect drop?
A stack that lands at most a few pixels off the one below. It then snaps exactly into place and loses no width.
Can the tower get wider again?
Yes. From the third perfect drop in a row, every further perfect stack grows a little, up to the starting width at most.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, it is even made for it. A tap on the field or on the big "Drop" button is all it takes.
Is my best score saved?
When you are signed in, your browser stores the best score on this device. Without signing in it only lasts while the window is open. We never get to see it either way.
