What Hourly Wage and Working Time Calculator does
Your payslip shows a monthly amount, the job ad an hourly wage, and the side job something else entirely. You can only compare them once everything is in the same unit. That is exactly what this calculator does: type in your gross pay and your weekly hours, and the result appears straight away, no button and no waiting.
There are several ways to get from a monthly to an hourly figure, and all of them are used in practice. The most common is the 13-week method: a quarter has 13 weeks, so you take monthly pay times 3, divided by 13, divided by the weekly hours. Many employment contracts use the rounded rule of thumb of 4.33 weeks per month, and the German public sector under TVöD and TV-L divides by 4.348 times the weekly hours. The calculator shows all three side by side so you see how small or large the difference is for you.
The statutory minimum wage in Germany is 13.90 euros gross per hour in 2026 and rises to 14.60 euros on 1 January 2027, as set by the Fifth Minimum Wage Adjustment Ordinance. The calculator checks your hourly wage against both. If it falls short, you see how much is missing per hour and per month, along with next steps: talking to your employer, the Federal Labour Ministry minimum wage hotline, and the fact that cut-off clauses in your contract do not apply to the minimum wage.
For net pay per hour the calculator uses the same wage tax and social contribution calculation as our Brutto-Netto calculator. You choose your tax class and children, and optionally your federal state, church tax and age. Along the way the calculator recognises whether your pay is a Minijob, a Midijob in the transition zone or a regular job, and explains what that means for your deductions.
For a Minijob everything depends on the minimum wage: the limit is the minimum wage times 130 divided by 3, rounded up to full euros. That gives 603 euros a month for 2026 and 633 euros for 2027 (§ 8 (1a) SGB IV). The calculator shows the formula and works out how many hours per month and per week fit under the limit at your hourly wage. For comparison it lists the minimum apprentice pay, which is 724 euros in the first year for apprenticeships starting in 2026.
The second part is a working time calculator. Enter start, end and break for one day or a whole week and get your working time in hours and minutes, as a decimal and in industrial minutes. The calculator checks the rules of the Working Hours Act: a 30-minute break after 6 hours, 45 minutes after 9 hours, at most 8 and exceptionally 10 hours a day, 11 hours of rest between two working days, plus notes on night and Sunday work. Overtime and missing hours against your contract are shown too, and you copy the weekly table into your spreadsheet with one click.
All figures are guide values to help you understand and prepare, not legal or tax advice. What counts is your payslip, your employment or collective agreement and, in a dispute, the labour court. What you type stays in your browser.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert my monthly pay into an hourly wage?
Monthly pay times 3, divided by 13, divided by your weekly hours. Example: 3,000 euros at 40 hours gives 3,000 x 3 / 13 / 40 = 17.31 euros. With the 4.33 weeks rule of thumb you get 17.32 euros, under TVöD (4.348) 17.25 euros.
How high is the minimum wage in 2026 and 2027?
Since 1 January 2026 the minimum wage is 13.90 euros gross per hour, from 1 January 2027 it is 14.60 euros. The basis is the Fifth Minimum Wage Adjustment Ordinance under the Minimum Wage Act. Exceptions include apprentices, under-18s without vocational qualification and mandatory internships (§ 22 MiLoG).
How many hours can I work in a Minijob?
It depends on your hourly wage. The limit in 2026 is 603 euros a month. At the minimum wage of 13.90 euros that is at most 43.38 hours a month, about 10 hours a week. The higher your hourly wage, the fewer hours fit.
How long does my break have to be?
Under § 4 of the Working Hours Act you need at least 30 minutes of break when working more than 6 hours, and at least 45 minutes for more than 9 hours. The break may be split into blocks of at least 15 minutes, and you may not work more than 6 hours in a row without a break.
What are industrial minutes?
With industrial minutes an hour has 100 instead of 60 minutes. 45 normal minutes are 75 industrial minutes, 7 hours 45 minutes are 7.75 hours. That makes working times easier to add up and multiply by the hourly wage, which is why many time clocks and payslips count this way.
How many hours may I work per day?
Under § 3 of the Working Hours Act at most 8 hours per working day. Up to 10 hours are allowed if you average 8 hours per working day over 6 months or 24 weeks. Collective agreements can differ. You also need 11 hours of rest between two working days (§ 5).
Does the calculator replace my payslip or professional advice?
No. The calculator gives guide values so you understand your numbers and can prepare questions. What counts is your payslip and your employment or collective agreement. In a dispute about pay or working time, the works council, a union or a specialist employment lawyer can help.
