What Work Time Tracker does
Recording working time cleanly is no longer bureaucracy for its own sake but, following rulings by the European Court of Justice and the Federal Labour Court, mandatory - employers must systematically record their employees' working time. Anyone who wants to keep that in hand for themselves, whether as an employee, freelancer or small business, does not need a heavy HR system for it. This Work Time Tracker is enough for everyday use and simply runs in the browser.
At its core it is a time clock. You clock in at the start of work and out again at the end; the tool remembers since when you have been clocked in and computes your working time. If you forgot to clock or want to add a past day, you enter a manual entry retroactively - with date, start, end, break time and optionally a note.
So the numbers are right, breaks are part of it. You record the break time per entry, and it is cleanly deducted from the gross time. Anyone who wants to split their time across projects or tasks adds project names and tags - handy when you want to know at month-end where your hours went.
Across the views day, week and month and the tabs tracker, weekly overview, overtime bank and settings you keep the overview. The overtime bank contrasts your target with your actual and carries the balance forward, so you can see at any time whether you are in the plus or minus. The target time comes from your working-time model.
And there are many ready-made ones: from the classic 40-hour week through 38.5 hours under the IG Metall agreement, 35 hours, various part-time models and the 15-hour minijob to flextime, shift work (say 3x12 or 5x8) and the 32-hour four-day week. If nothing fits exactly, you set your own weekly hours, daily hours and working days in the custom model.
A special guardian is the check against the Working Time Act. The tool warns when an entry breaks the usual limits - such as more than the permitted daily maximum, too little rest between two working days or a missing break on long shifts. That is a helpful hint so you spot such cases; the binding assessment of your specific situation remains a matter for your employer, works council or professional advice.
Everything stays with you. Your times are stored locally in your browser, not sent to a server and not connected to any employer system - it is your private record. To share or archive, you export your entries as CSV, which opens in Excel or any spreadsheet. No account with the provider, no cloud requirement, no sharing.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
Is recording working time mandatory in Germany?
Following rulings by the European Court of Justice and the Federal Labour Court, employers must systematically record their employees' working time. This tool helps you keep your own times cleanly - it is a private record, not a proof mandated by a particular employer.
Are my times sent to a server or employer?
No. Your entries are stored locally in your browser and not connected to any server or employer system. It is your private record. To share, you export a CSV file yourself.
What do the Working Time Act warnings mean?
The tool checks your entries against the usual limits of the Working Time Act - such as the daily maximum, the rest period between two working days and break rules - and flags breaches. That is an orientation hint, not a legally binding assessment of your case.
Can I track overtime?
Yes. The overtime bank contrasts your target time with your actually recorded time and keeps a running balance. So you see at a glance whether and how much overtime or negative time has accumulated.
Which working-time models are there?
Over a dozen ready models: full-time with 40, 38.5 or 35 hours, various part-time variants, minijob, flextime, shift work and the four-day week. For anything else there is a custom model with your own weekly hours, daily hours and working days.
Can I add a forgotten day?
Yes. Via the manual entry you add a past day retroactively - with date, start and end time, break and optionally a note. So your record stays complete even when you forget to clock.
