What Video Call does
Video calling has become a matter of course, but the barrier to entry is often absurdly high: first one side has to install a program, then create an account, then have the right version. Video Call puts an end to that. The call runs entirely in the browser. You click start call, your browser asks for camera and microphone, and you are ready to go.
Instead of sending invitations or coordinating appointments, you simply share a link. As soon as you start a call, a private room with its own address is created. You send that link to your counterpart by message, email or whatever. One click on it, type a name, allow camera access, and the connection is up. No downloading, no registering, no account, no waiting in a virtual waiting room.
During the conversation you stay in control of your presence. Mute the microphone with one click when the jackhammer next door kicks in, and turn off the camera when you are without make-up or in your pyjamas. Both any time and without interrupting the call.
For anything hard to put into words there is screen sharing. One click and your counterpart sees what is on your screen - a spreadsheet, a form, a presentation, the error message that has been annoying you for an hour. When you are done, you switch back to the camera without the connection dropping.
Video and audio run through our own video server in Germany, not through Google, Zoom or Microsoft. The server only passes them on: nothing is recorded, and your name in the call is not stored anywhere. That way the connection also works behind company firewalls and on mobile networks. Hung up is hung up: when you hang up, the call ends for both, the link stops working, and camera and microphone are cleanly released.
Starting a call needs Plus. Whoever is invited needs only the link and a browser with camera and microphone, no account. Everything else works without extra programs. So if you want to talk to someone quickly and simply, without them having to struggle through an installation first, a shared link is all you need.

Frequently asked questions
Does my counterpart have to install anything?
No. The call runs entirely in the browser. The other side just opens the shared link, types a name, allows access to camera and microphone, and is connected. No download, no account, no Plus needed.
Can I share my screen?
Yes. With one click on screen sharing your counterpart sees what is on your screen. When you are done, you switch back to the camera without the connection dropping.
Are my calls recorded or stored?
No. Video and audio run through our own video server in Germany, which only passes them on and records nothing. The name someone enters in the call is not stored. When you hang up, the call ends and the room is deleted shortly after.
Why do I get no picture?
Usually the permission for camera and microphone is missing. Check your browser settings that access is allowed and that no other application is currently using the camera.
What do I need to use Video Call?
A current browser with a camera and microphone. Starting a call needs Plus; anyone with the link can join. No additional programs are required.
