Calculate Fuel Costs — What Does My Trip Cost?
The Fuel Cost Calculator computes your fuel expenses for a trip based on distance, consumption, and current fuel price. Whether it's a daily commute, vacation drive, or business trip — you instantly see what the journey costs at the pump.
Fuel Types in Germany
- Super E5 — Gasoline with max. 5% ethanol, the classic choice
- Super E10 — Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol, usually 3–5 cents cheaper than E5
- Diesel — Compression-ignition fuel, traditionally cheaper than gasoline but higher vehicle tax
- Autogas (LPG) — Liquefied petroleum gas, approx. 0.60–0.80 per liter, lower range
Commuter Tax Deduction (Pendlerpauschale)
For your commute to work, you can claim the distance allowance on your German tax return: 0.30 euros per kilometer for the first 20 kilometers. From the 21st kilometer onward, the rate increases to 0.38 euros per km. Only the one-way distance counts, not the round trip. Maximum: 4,500 euros per year (or higher when using your own car with documentation).
Fuel-Saving Tips
- Fill up in the morning — fuel prices are often 5–8 cents higher in the evening
- Check tire pressure — low pressure increases consumption by up to 3%
- Drive smoothly — consistent speed saves up to 20% fuel
- Remove unnecessary weight — 100 kg extra costs about 0.3 l/100 km more
- Use A/C mindfully — it increases consumption by 0.5–1 l/100 km
Company Car Comparison
If you can choose between a company car and a mileage allowance, compare the total costs: for company cars, private use is taxed at 1% of the gross list price per month (or via logbook). The Fuel Cost Calculator helps determine the actual fuel costs for your route and compare them with the tax burden of a company car.
