Grade Average Calculator

Grades accompany you through the entire German education system, and every stage calculates a little differently. In school the weighted average counts, in the Abitur people think in points from 0 to 15, and at university the ECTS credits determine how heavily a grade weighs. The Grade Average Calculator bundles all three systems into one tool with three tabs, so you do not need three separate calculators.

In the Grades tab you enter your subjects with grade and weighting. By default each subject counts once, but you can weight individual subjects more heavily - handy when a main subject counts double or a final project carries more weight. The calculator immediately shows the weighted average, the matching grade label from very good to insufficient, whether you passed, and a bar chart of your grade distribution.

The Abitur tab handles the conversion between the two worlds of the upper school. Enter a grade between 1.0 and 6.0 and you get the corresponding point score; enter points between 0 and 15 and you get the grade. A full conversion table always sits alongside so you can look up any combination at a glance - exactly the table the education ministers’ conference works with.

In the ECTS tab you calculate the university average correctly. Here not every grade counts equally, but according to the credit points of each module: a module with 10 credits weighs twice as much in the average as one with 5. The calculator sums your credits, weights the grades correctly, and shows both the average and the total credit points collected.

Across all three tabs the results are presented clearly. A colour grade distribution shows how your grades split, and the average is colour-coded by its value - from green for very good to red for fail. So you see not just the bare number but also how it comes about.

Everything runs entirely in your browser. Your grades are not transmitted and not stored, there is no signup and no tracking. You can enter as many subjects and modules as you like, run through different scenarios, and refill the calculator as often as you want - without any traces.
