SKR Account Mapper

Your tax advisor speaks SKR, your bank speaks CSV, and you sit somewhere in between. The SKR mapper takes your bank export, assigns each transaction to the right SKR03 or SKR04 account, converts between the two charts of accounts and exports a DATEV-ready posting stack - including a complete chart of accounts with search.

What SKR Account Mapper does

SKR03 and SKR04 are the two standard charts of accounts that almost every German bookkeeping uses. SKR03 is process-oriented and structured by business transactions, SKR04 follows the balance-sheet structure. Both ultimately reach the same goal, but the account numbers differ - and that is exactly what causes confusion the moment someone books in the wrong chart.

The SKR mapper turns that into a translation task the tool handles. You upload your bank CSV, and each row is analyzed and proposed a matching ledger account - revenue, goods receipt, office supplies, travel costs, insurance and so on. You confirm or correct the assignment and end up with a cleanly coded stack you can process further.

The cross-reference between SKR03 and SKR04 is the centrepiece. For every common account the tool shows the counterpart in the other chart - so you can translate a bookkeeping kept in SKR03 into the SKR04 world and vice versa. That helps especially when switching tax advisor or software, where suddenly the other chart applies.

The full chart of accounts is searchable. You type a term like phone, rent or revenue and find the matching account with its class and number in both charts. Ready-made presets for typical businesses - freelancers, tradespeople, e-commerce and hospitality - surface exactly the accounts those sectors really need, instead of sending you through thousands of positions.

For small businesses and self-employed people without balance-sheet obligation, the EUER mapping is built in: the tool shows which line of the EUER attachment an account flows into. For businesses that balance, there is the mapping to balance-sheet and P&L positions. So you see not only where it is booked but also where the figure ends up in the accounts.

The export produces a DATEV posting stack as CSV that your tax advisor or accounting software can read in. That turns the manual retyping of bank statements into an import - fewer errors, less time, fewer queries. The legal references around GoBD and proper bookkeeping are available to read.

The SKR mapper is a tool for preparatory bookkeeping, not tax advice. The final coding and the annual accounts are your tax advisor's responsibility - the tool just takes the dull legwork off your hands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SKR03 and SKR04?

SKR03 is process-oriented and built around business transactions, SKR04 follows the balance-sheet structure. Both book the same events, just under different account numbers. Which chart you use depends on your tax advisor or software. The SKR mapper translates between them.

Can I upload my bank statement directly?

Yes. You upload your bank CSV, and the tool reads the transactions and proposes a matching SKR account for each row. You confirm or correct and get a fully coded stack. The processing is designed for preparatory bookkeeping.

What is a DATEV posting stack?

A posting stack is a structured list of accounting records in DATEV format. Your tax advisor or accounting software can read this CSV in, instead of retyping every transaction by hand. That saves time and avoids transcription errors.

Does the tool help with the EUER attachment?

Yes. For cash-basis filers the mapper shows which line of the EUER attachment an account flows into. For businesses that balance, there is also the mapping to balance-sheet and P&L positions. So you see where your entries land in the accounts.

Which businesses are the presets for?

There are presets for freelancers, tradespeople, e-commerce and hospitality. They surface exactly the accounts those sectors typically need, so you do not scroll through the entire chart. You can switch to the full chart of accounts at any time.

Does the SKR mapper replace my tax advisor?

No. The tool is intended for preparatory bookkeeping and is not tax advice. The final coding, the review of special cases and the annual accounts remain your tax advisor's job. The mapper saves you the manual legwork and the translation between charts.
