The tax return is done, you click submit, and instead of the confirmation comes an error with a number that looks like a password. The ELSTER Error Decoder translates these messages back into something understandable so you know what went wrong and how to fix it.

The directory covers the typical error classes. First there are validation errors: a mandatory field is empty, a value implausible, a date wrongly formatted. Then the certificate and authentication errors: the certificate has expired, the password is wrong, the login fails. And finally the pure transmission errors where the connection to the tax office hangs. For each of these classes the decoder provides the matching explanation.
