The amounts are guideline values from the federal fine catalogue, not legal advice. What you actually pay is set by the authority's penalty notice. Not legally binding.

Traffic Fine Calculator

Caught by a speed camera and no idea what comes next? The traffic fine calculator tells you, based on the current German fine catalog, how much the fine is, how many points in Flensburg, and whether a driving ban is on the table - for speeding, red lights, phone use, alcohol, tailgating, and more. Free, no signup.

What Traffic Fine Calculator does

A letter from the fine office spikes most people's pulse first - then the questions. How expensive is this? Will I get points? Is my licence at risk? The traffic fine calculator answers exactly those three questions by looking your offence up in the current nationwide fine catalog (BKatV) and showing fine, points, and a possible driving ban in one go.

The fine catalog is based on the Fine Catalog Ordinance and the rules of the German road traffic act (StVO) and traffic law (StVG). It is the same nationwide, which is handy: whether you were caught in Munich or Hamburg, the standard rate is identical. The calculator covers the most common offences - speeding in town and out of town, running a red light, phone at the wheel, tailgating, alcohol and drugs, parking, overtaking, and seatbelt or child-seat rules.

For speeding, the tool applies the tolerance deduction. Before assessment, a measurement tolerance is subtracted - usually 3 km/h up to 100 km/h, above that a percentage deduction. The calculator accounts for this so you do not panic over the raw reading but see the overrun that actually counts.

For new drivers, the probation period is its own chapter. Certain offences count as category A and extend probation from two to four years plus mandatory advanced training. For drink-driving during probation or under age 21, the absolute zero-alcohol limit also applies. The calculator flags these tougher consequences when they kick in.

The tool does not hide the serious cases. Above certain blood-alcohol levels or point totals you face not just a fine and driving ban but revocation of the licence and the MPU medical-psychological assessment. The calculator indicates when it stops being about money, so you gauge the stakes correctly.

One important closer: the calculator shows the catalog standard rates. In an individual case the authority may deviate, for example with prior entries or special circumstances. And an objection to the fine notice is possible within two weeks. The tool does not replace a lawyer, but it gives you the numbers to decide whether an appeal is worth it. Everything runs in your browser, with your offence stored nowhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is measurement tolerance deducted at a speed camera?

Yes. Before assessment, a tolerance is deducted from the measured speed, typically 3 km/h up to 100 km/h and a percentage deduction above that. The calculator accounts for this so you see the overrun that actually counts.

When do you get points in Flensburg?

Points only start at certain offences, such as more significant speeding, running a red light, or phone use at the wheel. Minor infractions cost only a fine without points. The calculator shows whether and how many points your offence triggers.

When does a driving ban loom?

A driving ban looms for more serious offences, such as high-range speeding, a qualified red-light violation, or drink-driving. Repeated speeding within a year can also lead to a ban. The calculator flags it when your case is affected.

What applies during probation?

Certain offences count as category A during probation and extend it to four years plus mandatory advanced training. New drivers and drivers under 21 are also subject to the absolute zero-alcohol limit.

Can I appeal a fine notice?

Yes. You can appeal a fine notice within two weeks of delivery. Whether it is worth it depends on the individual case. The calculator gives you the numbers but does not replace legal advice.

Are the amounts the same nationwide?

The standard rates of the fine catalog apply uniformly nationwide. In an individual case the authority may deviate for prior entries or special circumstances. The calculator shows the standard rates as guidance.
