What Word Search does
Word searches are the most relaxed way to keep an eye for patterns sharp. You stare at a grid of letters, your gaze jumps across rows and columns, and suddenly a word leaps out that was lost in the noise a moment ago. Here those words are not random vocabulary but real bureaucratic terms, so you train your eye and pick up the vocabulary you will meet at your next authority visit at the same time.
The principle is simple: click the first letter of a word, then the last. If a valid word from the list lies between them, it gets marked and struck off the search list. A little preview shows which cells you are selecting as you drag, so you never grab the wrong ones. Once every word is found, the puzzle is solved.
You control the difficulty yourself. Easy hides the words horizontally and vertically only - good for warming up or for younger puzzlers. Medium adds diagonals so words run at an angle through the grid. Hard cranks it up: now words can also appear backwards, and you have to look more carefully to catch them.
Like the crossword, there are two modes. Official German fills the grid with bureaucratic terms so you pick up vocabulary while you search. General stays more everyday, for when you just want to search and find without thinking about the tax office. The word list is always beside you so you know what you are hunting for.
A timer runs along and measures how quickly you tracked down all the words. For some that is motivation, for others irrelevant - both are fine. At the end your time is shown, and a new grid is only a click away.
Everything happens locally in your browser. No account, no signup, no data sent anywhere. The grid is generated on your device, your finds stay with you. On a phone you tap your way through, on a desktop you click - both work smoothly.

Click the first letter of the word and then the last. If a valid word from the list lies between them it gets highlighted and ticked off. A preview shows the affected cells while you select.
What changes between difficulty levels?
Easy hides words horizontally and vertically only. Medium adds diagonals. Hard also allows words written backwards, so you need to look more carefully.
