What Text Statistics does
Every text has a structure you can measure - and from those numbers you learn a surprising amount. Is the text too long for a tweet, too short for the required 500 words, too nested for the audience? Text statistics answers all of that in one go, without you counting or calculating yourself.
The basic figures appear instantly: words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and the average sentence and word length. Added to that are reading and speaking time, estimated from typical reading and speaking speeds. That is the figure you need to know whether the talk fits the allotted five minutes or whether the article overwhelms the reader.
The readability part goes deep. Text statistics computes several established formulas at once: the Flesch value in the Amstad variant for German, the Gunning Fog index, the Coleman-Liau index and the Wiener Sachtextformel. Because each formula weights differently, together they give a robust picture of how demanding your text really is - not just a single number that can miss in an individual case.
The frequency analyses show what your text is really made of. The word frequency lists which words occur most often - handy for exposing favourite words, repetitions and filler. The character frequency shows the letter distribution, and if you like you can filter out stop words to lay bare the content-bearing terms.
The sentence analysis targets the level above. It shows the distribution of sentence lengths, so you see whether your text runs in a steady plod or whether long and short sentences alternate. A text of nothing but equally long sentences reads monotonously - this view makes exactly that visible.
The tool even detects the language automatically, so the readability formulas and stop words match the right language area. That matters because a German formula applied to an English text would be nonsense and vice versa.
Text statistics is one of the tools open to guests without signup. Everything runs in your browser; your text never leaves your device, there is no transmission and no data collection. Whether you trim an essay to length, time a speech or are simply curious how your text ticks - here you get the numbers immediately.

Frequently asked questions
How is the reading time calculated?
From the word count and a typical reading speed. The speaking time uses a slower rate for reading aloud. Both are estimates, but they are good enough to time a speech or gauge how long an article holds the reader.
Why several readability formulas?
Because each formula emphasizes different features - syllables, word length, sentence length, share of long words. A single value can mislead in an individual case; the interplay of several values gives a more reliable picture of how demanding your text is.
What does filtering stop words do?
Stop words are frequent function words like and, the, of or in. Filtering them out of the word frequency lets the content-bearing terms stand out. So you see what your text is really about instead of only the usual suspects at the top.
Does the tool detect the language automatically?
Yes. Text statistics detects your text's language and adapts readability formulas and stop words accordingly. That matters because a German formula on an English text would deliver unusable values.
Does it cost anything or do I need an account?
No. Text statistics is free and open to guests without signup. Everything runs in your browser; your text is not uploaded and not stored.
