Multi-Language Merge

A contract in German and English, cleanly side by side in one PDF - that is what you need the moment business partners do not share a language. The bilingual contract merges two language versions into a single document: column by column, alternating by paragraph, or interleaved. One PDF, two languages, no more loose translations.

What Multi-Language Merge does

As soon as a contract is concluded across language borders, the same question arises: how do you bring both language versions together so they unambiguously belong to each other? Two separate documents invite misunderstandings and accusations of manipulation. The bilingual contract solves this by joining both versions into a single, clearly structured PDF - traceable paragraph by paragraph.

You have three layouts to choose from. Side-by-side puts the two languages in two columns so each section is directly comparable left and right - the classic for contracts. Alternating sets the paragraphs one after another in turn, which reads better on narrow pages or with long paragraphs. Interleaved weaves the languages more tightly together when you want an especially dense juxtaposition.

The merge numbers the paragraphs in both languages so the mapping stays unambiguous even when a paragraph is longer in one language than the other. That is exactly what matters for bilingual contracts: that paragraph 3 on the left and paragraph 3 on the right really mean the same content.

The tool is used wherever German meets another language: employment contracts for international staff, supply and cooperation contracts with foreign partners, articles of association with participants from abroad, but also technical documentation and manuals that must ship bilingually.

Processing runs server-side so the PDF is cleanly typeset and reliably produced - the result is a finished document you can pass on directly or have signed. For both parties’ signatures it pairs well with the signature tool.

An important, honest note: the tool merges two existing language versions, it does not translate. The substantive accuracy and legal equivalence of both versions are your responsibility. For contracts especially, a clause specifying which language version prevails in a dispute is advisable. For clean merging the tool is ideal; for the legal review of the translation the specialist remains responsible.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool translate my text?

No. The bilingual contract merges two already existing language versions; it does not create a translation. You paste both versions yourself - keeping full control over the substantive and legal accuracy of both.

Which layout is best for contracts?

For contracts, the side-by-side layout in two columns is the classic because each section can be directly compared left and right. For very long paragraphs or narrow pages the alternating layout can read better. Try both and decide by the result.

How do I ensure the paragraphs line up?

The merge numbers the paragraphs in both languages so paragraph 3 on the left and paragraph 3 on the right stay matched. What matters is that you paste both versions paragraph by paragraph in the same order - then the structure stays unambiguous even with differing text length.

Which language version prevails in a dispute?

You set that in the contract itself. For bilingual contracts it is common and advisable to include a clause specifying which language version prevails in case of doubt. The tool brings the versions together; you write the prevailing-language clause into the text.

Can I set manuals bilingually too?

Yes. Besides contracts, the tool suits technical documentation, manuals and other texts that should ship in two languages side by side. The principle is the same: paste two versions, choose a layout, generate the PDF.
