What Audio Metadata Editor does
Every audio file carries metadata alongside the actual sound - the so-called ID3 tags. They tell the player what the title is, who performed it, which album it belongs to and which cover to show. If those tags are empty or wrong, your player sorts the songs arbitrarily, shows cryptic file names or throws everything into one pile. The Metadata Editor brings order.
You load your audio file via drag and drop or the file dialog, and the tool reads the existing tags. Then you edit the fields directly: title, artist, album, year, genre and track number. Each field has an example so it is clear what belongs in it. What you do not change stays as it is - you only overwrite what you want.
The cover art can be set too. A fitting album image turns a nameless file into a recognisable song in your library and on your phone’s lock screen. Especially for self-recorded podcasts, ripped CDs or downloads without an image, this little extra is worth it and makes a big difference to how your collection looks.
The processing runs server-side so the tags are written into the file correctly without changing the audio. Files up to 100 MB are no problem, which covers practically every song, podcast episode and voice recording. If the file is not audio or is too big, you get clear feedback.
After saving, you download the tagged file or store it in the Aktenschrank, the Werkzeu.ge file manager, with one click. That way your neatly labelled files move straight into your archive, ready for import into your music app.
The Metadata Editor complements the other audio tools. If the format is wrong, convert it first with the Audio Converter; if you want to join several files, use the Audio Merger; and for tempo changes there is the Audio Speed Changer. Together they cover everyday tasks around audio files without you having to install heavy software.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
What are ID3 tags?
ID3 tags are the metadata stored inside an audio file - title, artist, album, year, genre, track number and cover art. Your player reads them to display and sort the file sensibly instead of just showing the file name.
Does editing change the sound?
No. Only the metadata is written, the audio track itself stays untouched. The file sounds exactly as before, just the labelling is new.
Can I add a cover image?
Yes. You can assign an album image as cover art. It then appears in the player and on your device’s lock screen. It is especially worthwhile for podcasts, ripped CDs or downloads without an image.
Which fields can I edit?
Title, artist, album, year, genre and track number, plus the cover image. That covers the key fields that music apps sort and filter by.
Are my files stored?
The processing runs server-side, but the file is not kept permanently. Only when you deliberately store the result in the Aktenschrank does it land in your personal archive.
