What Barcode Generator does
Barcodes are the quiet infrastructure of commerce: every product on the shelf, every book, every shipping unit carries one. Anyone who sells, ships or inventories something needs their own barcode sooner or later - and this generator delivers it in seconds, with no software, no signup and without your numbers ever leaving the device.
The generator handles the formats that actually matter in everyday use. EAN-13 is the European retail standard on almost every product, EAN-8 the compact variant for small packaging, UPC-A the North American counterpart. Code128 and Code39 are the flexible workhorses for internal logistics, warehouses and labels because they also accept letters and special characters. ITF-14 sits on outer packaging and cartons, and ISBN produces the book-trade barcode from an ISBN-10 or ISBN-13.
The check digit is the most common stumbling block with barcodes, and the generator takes it off your hands. For EAN-13 you type twelve digits and the thirteenth is calculated automatically. The same goes for EAN-8, UPC-A and ISBN. You can also supply the check digit yourself if you already have it - the generator then verifies it is correct rather than silently overwriting it.
You decide the look. You set the bar height, choose the line and background colour and decide whether the plain-text number should sit under the code. For the classic look there is black on white like on any official form, but nothing stops you from coloured codes for labels or packaging design - as long as the contrast is enough to scan.
Ready-made templates get you there even faster. Typical scenarios like a book barcode, a shipping unit or a warehouse label are stored as presets, so you only need to enter your number. The rest - format, size, plain text - is already set correctly.
You download as SVG or PNG. The SVG scales losslessly and is ideal for print at any size, the PNG fits anywhere you need a simple pixel image. Everything is generated locally in your browser: no number, no code and no image is sent to a server. That is fast, works offline and keeps your product data where it belongs - with you.

How it works
- 1
Pick a format
EAN-13 for a retail product, Code128 for the warehouse, ISBN for a book - or start straight from a template.
- 2
Enter the number
Type the value. For EAN, UPC and ISBN the number without the check digit is enough, the generator does the rest.
- 3
Adjust the look
Set height, colours and plain text as needed. For scanners: keep enough contrast between lines and background.
- 4
Download
Download the code as SVG for print or as PNG for quick use.
Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
Which barcode formats are supported?
EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, Code128, Code39, ITF-14 and ISBN. EAN and UPC cover retail, Code128 and Code39 are flexible for warehouses and labels, ITF-14 sits on outer packaging and ISBN produces the book-trade barcode.
Do I have to calculate the check digit myself?
No. For EAN-13 you enter twelve digits and the generator calculates the thirteenth automatically. The same applies to EAN-8, UPC-A and ISBN. If you supply the check digit yourself, the generator only verifies that it is correct.
SVG or PNG - which should I use?
Use SVG if you want to print the barcode: it scales losslessly and stays sharp at any size. PNG is right when you need a simple pixel image, for example for a web page or a document that does not like SVG.
Can I change colours and size?
Yes. You set the bar height, choose the line and background colour and show or hide the plain-text number. Just make sure the contrast between lines and background is enough for scanning.
Are my numbers stored anywhere?
No. The barcode is generated entirely locally in your browser. No number, no code and no image is sent to a server. The generator even works offline.
