What Weather does

Most weather sites are a minefield: three cookie dialogs, a newsletter popup, an autoplaying video and the temperature somewhere in between. This weather tool does it the other way round. Type a city, immediately see the current situation, and you are done. No account, no subscription, no background data harvesting.

The data comes from Open-Meteo, an open, open-source weather service that works without an API key and without commercial tracking. The search uses a geocoding database that works worldwide - whether Berlin, a tiny village or a city abroad where your family happens to live. You get up to six matches with region and country to choose from, so you do not pick the wrong Paris.

For today the tool shows an hourly temperature curve as a graph. That is more useful than a bare daily high, because you can see when it gets warm enough for the bike ride or when it cools down in the evening. In addition a small bar runs under each forecast day for the chance of rain, so you know at a glance whether the umbrella comes along.

The 7-day forecast brings a weather symbol, high and low temperature and the precipitation probability for each day. The conditions are translated from the official WMO codes, so from clear through fog and drizzle to a heavy thunderstorm with hail. All in German and English, depending on your set language.

Your last chosen city is remembered as the default so that you see your weather right away next time. For guests without an account nothing is deliberately stored permanently - privacy applies even to something as harmless as your hometown. The widget also shows the feels-like temperature, wind speed with direction and current precipitation.

Weather is one of the tools open to everyone without registration. It is proof that a useful tool does not necessarily have to sell your attention to work. Open it, take a look, move on.
