Invoice layout, done right
Create a DIN 5008 invoice online - free, and e-invoice-ready

The anatomy of a DIN 5008 invoice
Letterhead and sender line
Company name and logo on top; above the address window a single sender line in small print - that is what shows in the envelope window.
Address window and info block
The recipient address sits in the window zone on the left; the info block on the right carries invoice number, date, customer number, due date and contact details - fixed positions, no guessing.
Items table and totals
Positions with quantity, unit, unit price and net amount; totals broken down by tax rate, then the gross total - the arithmetic the recipient checks first.
Footer with the legal block
Bank details, tax number or VAT ID, and the commercial-register entry belong in the footer of every page - like classic business stationery.
FAQ
What does DIN 5008 actually specify for invoices?
DIN 5008 is the German business-letter standard: it defines layout and position of the address window, the info block (invoice number, date, customer number), the subject line, fold and punch marks, and the footer. It is not legally required, but it is what business partners and accounting departments expect - a DIN-compliant invoice fits every window envelope and looks professional.
Why not a Word template?
Word templates shift around, do not calculate, and produce no e-invoice. From 2027/2028 every German B2B invoice must be sent as structured data (XRechnung or ZUGFeRD) anyway - a generator that produces the DIN layout and the EN 16931 data in one step does both jobs at once.
What must every German invoice contain (sec. 14 UStG)?
The mandatory items per sec. 14 UStG: full names and addresses of both parties, tax number or VAT ID, invoice date, sequential invoice number, quantity and type of goods or services, delivery/service date, amounts broken down by tax rate, tax rate and tax amount or the note for an exemption (e.g. sec. 19 UStG for small businesses). Whether a tax rate, the small-business rule or reverse charge applies in your case is a question for your tax advisor.
Is the generator really free?
Yes. The quick generator runs in the browser without registration; fakturen.de additionally hosts a live demo of the real DIN 5008 renderer. If you want customer records, number ranges, payment matching and dunning on top, Plus is 9.99 EUR per month (founder price until 30 Sep 2026, locked forever for existing customers).
