Sega Mega Drive - Console rétro

The Sega Mega Drive, marketed in North America as the Genesis, was the great challenger in the console war against Nintendo in the early nineties. With the slogan blast processing, an edgier, cooler image and a punchy FM sound chip, Sega appealed to a slightly older audience. The characteristic, slightly raw sound of the Mega Drive is unmistakable to this day. This retro console brings that 16-bit era into the browser via the open-source emulator EmulatorJS.

The Mega Drive has a loyal and productive homebrew scene that still programs new titles for the original hardware today. That is what the list is made of. Some titles are unofficial fan ports of well-known home computer and arcade games, and those are marked in the list. We ship the bundled games ourselves, and their licences are being checked one by one.

The homebrew titles hit the exact character of the console: fast platformers, action-packed shooters, gutsy arcade conversions and games that push the punchy sound chip. The original Mega Drive controller had a directional pad and three action buttons A, B and C, and later variants with six buttons were added. The emulator maps the controls onto the keyboard - directional pad on the arrow keys, A on S, B on X, C on Z and Start on Enter. For the original feel you plug in a USB gamepad, which the emulator supports. A fullscreen mode stretches the picture across the whole screen.
