Ce que sait faire Game Boy - Console rétro
The 1989 Game Boy was never technically the strongest handheld of its time, but it was the most successful. A small, rugged box with a monochrome display in four shades of green, weeks of battery life and a library ranging from puzzle classics to epic adventures. Exactly this no-frills handheld feeling is what this retro console brings into the browser via the open-source emulator EmulatorJS.
As with all consoles here, the rule applies: only homebrew games run. The Game Boy has a particularly active homebrew scene because its manageable hardware is a rewarding target for tinkerers. Hobbyist and indie developers still program new titles for the original system today and release them under free licenses. That way you get real Game Boy games, entirely without copied commercial cartridges and their legal gray area.
The titles hit the exact nerve of the handheld: small, focused games you enjoy in short sessions. Tight puzzle games, minimalist platformers, skill games and lovingly crafted pixel adventures. The monochrome look with its four shades of green forces clear, readable design - and that is precisely what gives these games their timeless charm. You pick a title from the list and off you go.
The Game Boy had the simplest possible controls: a directional pad, the two buttons A and B, plus Start and Select. On the keyboard the directional pad sits on the arrow keys, the buttons on nearby letter keys. If you like, you plug in a USB gamepad, which the emulator supports. A fullscreen mode enlarges the small handheld picture for comfortable play on a big screen.
Technically everything runs directly in your browser on your device. EmulatorJS executes the homebrew ROMs without you having to install or download anything. No account, no signup, no ads. The game file loads as soon as you pick a title, and then you play right away.
Whether as a time journey for everyone who pushed the Game Boy to its limits under the blanket, or as a discovery for younger players: this console is the most straightforward way to relive the charm of the monochrome handheld. And because the homebrew library steadily grows, it is worth a fresh look again and again.

Who made the games, and under which licence?
For every bundled game we are collecting author, licence and source right now. Until that is done, the list says "Licence under review". Commercial games do not run here. Only load your own ROM if you hold the rights to it.
