What Gross-to-Net Calculator does
The path from gross to net in Germany is a chain of deductions that almost nobody holds in their head. First wage tax comes off per the official calculation scheme (PAP2026), then the solidarity surcharge and possibly church tax, then the four branches of social insurance. The Gross-to-Net Calculator makes this chain visible step by step instead of just putting a final number in front of you.
The tax class is the biggest lever. Class I for singles, III and V for married couples with unequal incomes, IV for equally earning couples, VI for a second job. The calculator knows all six and shows immediately how strongly the choice of class shifts your monthly net - the basic allowance of 12,348 EUR a year is already factored in.
For social contributions the tool uses the current rates: pension insurance 18.6%, unemployment insurance 2.6%, health insurance 14.6% base plus an average 2.9% supplementary rate, and long-term care insurance 3.6%, each borne half by the employee. Childless people pay a 0.6% surcharge on care. The contribution ceilings cap all of this at 8,450 EUR a month for pension and unemployment and 5,812.50 EUR for health and care.
The key difference from the usual salary calculators: this one does more than the classic employee. The self-employed and voluntarily insured pay the full contribution rate with no employer share under statutory health insurance - the calculator reflects that. Privately insured people enter their PKV premium as a fixed monthly amount instead of a percentage. And for shareholder-managing directors of a GmbH special rules apply, such as the half KV/PV subsidy under Section 257 SGB V, tax-free for minority GGFs under Section 3(62) EStG.
Because the tool computes both 2026 and 2027 you can plan salary negotiations and job changes ahead. You see not only what a higher gross yields net, but also how a different tax class or a change of health fund alters your net. That turns a fuzzy salary figure into a decision you can recompute.
The basic tariff and social contributions run through a hybrid calculation, and your inputs stay protected. The calculator is free and usable without signup. It replaces neither a binding payslip nor tax advice - individual allowances, benefits in kind or special cases can shift your actual net. Take the result as a solid, transparent approximation.

Who needs this
Frequently asked questions
How much net stays from my gross?
That depends on tax class, health insurance, number of children and federal state. The calculator deducts wage tax per PAP2026, solidarity surcharge, church tax and the four social insurance branches and shows your monthly net with a full breakdown.
Does the tool work for the self-employed too?
Yes. The self-employed and voluntarily statutorily insured pay the full health insurance contribution with no employer share, privately insured people enter a fixed PKV monthly premium. Both cases are covered alongside the classic employee.
What applies to shareholder-managing directors?
Special rules apply to GGFs. The GmbH can pay half of the KV/PV contributions under Section 257 SGB V, which are tax-free for minority GGFs under Section 3(62) EStG. For majority GGFs they can be taxable. The calculator offers this profile specifically.
Where is the basic allowance in 2026?
The basic allowance in 2026 is 12,348 EUR a year. Up to this amount no income tax is due, which is already taken into account in the wage tax calculation.
Up to what salary do social contributions rise?
The contribution ceilings cap the levies. In 2026 they are uniform nationwide at 8,450 EUR a month for pension and unemployment insurance and 5,812.50 EUR for health and care insurance. Beyond these limits the contributions do not rise.
Is the result binding?
No. The calculator delivers a transparent approximation. Your actual payslip can differ due to individual allowances, benefits in kind or special cases. It replaces neither the payslip nor tax advice.
